Inspiration Behind the Movie

Writer Andrew Kevin Walker was inspired to pen Se7en after living in New York City and being struck by its darkness and moral decay. The story evolved from his frustration with typical Hollywood thrillers, aiming instead for something brutal and unrelenting. Director David Fincher, still smarting from his experience on *Alien³*, was drawn to the grim script’s originality and refused to change its famously bleak ending.
