Inspiration Behind the Movie
Top Gun was inspired by a 1983 magazine article titled “Top Guns” about the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School. Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson saw potential for a thrilling, patriotic action film. Director Tony Scott combined dazzling aerial photography with a coming-of-age story and 80s flair.
