Inspiration Behind the Movie

Director Sergio Leone, coming off The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, wanted to end his Western journey with a grand, operatic vision. He teamed up with Dario Argento and Bernardo Bertolucci to craft a suspenseful revenge saga, weaving in influences from classic American Westerns. Backed by Paramount and Henry Fonda, this was Leone’s ultimate tribute to the genre.

Filming Locations
