Inspiration Behind the Movie

Director Adam McKay and Will Ferrell were inspired by their love for absurdist comedy and the concept of immature adults stuck in arrested development. The story stemmed from their interest in dysfunctional family dynamics, and the idea of middle-aged stepbrothers behaving like spoiled teenagers was too hilariously ripe to ignore.
